Королевский монетный двор Великобритании 13 августа 2014 года объявил о выпуске специальной медали в честь предстоящего саммита НАТО, который состоится с 4 по 5 сентября в Уэльсе.

Саммит Североатлантического альянса состоится 4-5 сентября 2014 года в Южном Уэльсе. «Этот саммит имеет важное значение для НАТО. Мы отметим завершение в конце 2014 года нашей миссии ISAF, а также новый этап нашего взаимодействия в Афганистане. Мы будем предпринимать дальнейшие шаги по модернизации нашего альянса, чтобы он оставался сильным, гибким и готовым к любым вызовам безопасности. И мы подтвердим связь между Европой и Северной Америкой, которая является источником нашей силы, нашей безопасности и нашего успеха», — говорится в заявлении генсек НАТО Андерса Фог Расмуссена, распространенном в Брюсселе.

Всего изготовлено 157 медалей. Часть из этого тиража получат мировые лидеры в память о данном мероприятии. Другую часть медалей планируется передать в 57 школ Ньюпорта (Уэльс) в качестве памяти о той особой роли, которую будет играть этот город во время проведения саммита.

На лицевой стороне медали показана карта Уэльса с отмеченным местом проведения саммита. Также имеется надпись на английском языке «NATO SUMMIT WALES 2014». По левому краю медали эта же надпись написана на валлийском языке.

На реверсе расположен логотип Североатлантического альянс и надиси "NATO", "OTAN".

Каждая медаль отчеканена из бронзы, диаметр – 63 мм. Дизайнером является Джоди Кларк (Jody Clark), гравер Королевского монетного двора Великобритании.

The Royal Mint have announced (13^th August) that they have been commissioned to produce a special medal to mark the upcoming NATO summit. From the 4th to the 5^th of September, Wales will host the largest gathering of international leaders ever to take place in Britain as the UK hosts the NATOsummit.

The Royal Mint have produced 157 of the limited-edition pieces which will be and given to every world leader attending the summit as a memento of what is set to be a vital summit in the future of NATO. A piece will also be given to all 57 schools in Newport, Wales as a memento of the special role Newport is playing in the summit. The medals, which are not available for purchase, will be presented to attending world leaders and delivered to schools with some pieces being hand-delivered by summit representatives this September.

Wales Office Minister Baroness Randerson was joined the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Newport at the Royal Mint in Pontyclun on the 13^th August to see the striking of the final piece. They were also joined by Welsh cadets from across the forces who represented some the schools receiving the pieces.

Designed by the Royal Mint’s talented engraver Jody Clark, the 63 mm bronze medal features the iconic map of Wales with ‘NATO Summit Wales 2014’ in both English and Welsh on one side and the NATO insignia on the other. The design was developed using modern computer-aided techniques, and then transferred to a three dimensional model where it was enhanced before bespoke traditional tools were created to strike the special commemorative pieces.

U.S. President Obama, Germany’s Chancellor Merkel, and France’s President Hollande are expected to attend along with leaders and senior ministers from around 60 other countries. The summit comes as NATO draws down from its longest ever mission in Afghanistan and against a backdrop of instability in Ukraine. It is an opportunity to ensure that NATO continues to be at the forefront of building stability in an unpredictable world. The city center Newport will be transformed into a NATO-themed culture and food celebration in honor of the occasion.

Монетный двор Финляндии 4 сентября 2014 года выпустит две монеты «Илмари Тапиоваара», посвященные 100-летию со дня рождения известного дизайнера.

Илмари Тапиоваара (фин. Ilmari Tapiovaara; 1914–1999) - всемирно известный финский дизайнер мебели и интерьера. Его творчество, начавшееся в конце 30-х годов. Им была создана универсальная сборно-разборная мебель, штабелируемая, поставляемая деталями в эффектной модульной упаковке. Еще более крупным проектом Тапиоваары стало создание интерьеров и мебели для общежития студентов Политехнического института. Одним из ключевых объектов стал стул «Лукки» («Паук») , выполненный на металлическом каркасе из металлических профилей с сидением и спинкой из фанеры.

В 1952–53 он был профессором в школе дизайна Иллинойского технологического института в Чикаго. В конце 1950 года он отправился в Парагвай, где проектировал мебель при поддержке Программы развития ООН, в середине 1970-х работал на Маврикии в подобном проекте. Он также был экспертом в Югославии, участвуя в развитии центра мебельной и столярной промышленности.

На аверсе будет увековечен знаменитый стул «Мадемуазель» работы Тапиоваара. В верхней части образуя круг будут расположены надписи «ILMARI TAPIOVAARA», «1914–1999».

Реверс будет представлять карту мира, где пунктиром обозначен путь, проделанный Тапиоваара во время своих путешествий по свету. Также указаны годы, в которые он посещал различные страны: Франция 1937, США 1952, Парагвай1958, Советский Союз 1964 и Маврикий 1974. В нижней части будут выгравированы номинал монет «20 €» или «10 €», указан знак монетного двора, надписи «SUOMI», «FINLAND» и указан год чеканки «2014».

Ilmari Tapiovaara's commemorative coin is a beautiful testament to the designer's global legacy. The Tapiovaara commemorative coin belongs in every home – either as part of a collection, or as a decor element.

Designer and interior architect Ilmari Tapiovaara (1914-1999) is one of the most renowned Finnish designers. His most famous designs include the Domus and Mademoiselle chairs. Tapiovaara's work was based on ideas of social responsibility and democracy.

Proof-quality collector coins are minted with a polished die, finished, and placed in a protective clear plastic casing set in a box that tells the coin's story. The new gift box has been made lower than those of collector coins released earlier in 2014. The new box is the same size as the box of the EUR 10 Tapiovaara coin. The collector coins have a part matte, part gloss finish. Designs on a matte background are executed with a gloss finish, while designs on a gloss background are rendered in matte. The collector coin's obverse depicts the Mademoiselle chair. The reverse features a map of the world, with Tapiovaara's destinations of 1937, 1952, 1958, 1964 and 1974 – France, the United States, Paraguay, the Soviet Union and Mauritius – marked with sectors and dates spreading outwards from Finland.

The second coin in the handsome Sea Creatures series, this piece is struck in 1/25th of an ounce of pure gold, and features an unusual face value of 50 cents.

The seahorse is one of the most fascinating creatures in the sea, and the province of Nova Scotia is fortunate to have one species of this extraordinary fish living along its coastline. It's the lined seahorse (Hippocampus erectus), and its unique characteristics go far beyond its horse-like head, including a tail like a monkey; changing colours (and shapes!) like a chameleon; and a brood pouch like a kangaroo on the males so they can hatch and raise as many as 700 fry until they know how to swim!

The seahorse's eyes are reminiscent of a chameleon's and can also swivel about independently. Fish scales have been replaced by a bony armour that covers the seahorse's body in a series of rings, and the small dorsal fin, used for small amounts of propulsion, makes it easy to envision why this fish is not a good swimmer and needs a strong, monkey-like tail to pull itself around in the seaweed or coral.

Банк Литвы в 2014 году выпустил памятную монету, посвященную 25-ой годовщине «Балтийского пути». 

Также в честь этого собития выпустил монету Банк Латвии.

Аверс традиционный: в центре герб Литовского государства. Вокгур расположены надписи: «LIETUVA» (Литва), номинал и год выпуска «50 Litu 2014». В нижней части выгравирован знак Монетного двора.

На реверс представлено дерево, где в виде кроны изображены контуры трех стран Балтики, а ствол — художественное изображение дороги, соединяющей их. Радям имеется надпись: «BALTIJOS KELIAS 25» (25 лет Балтийскому пути). С правой стороны указаны инициалы дизайнера.

Гурт содержит надпись: «EESTI LATVIJA LIETUVA» (Эстония, Латвия, Литва).

The collectors coin — 50 litas — issued into circulation by the Bank of Lithuania to commemorate the 25^th anniversary of the Baltic Way depict a tree that is symbolic of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia joining together in a living chain in the Baltic Way. The leaves of the tree are in the colours of the flags of the three Baltic nations. On the reverse of both coins is a map, in the graphic elements of which for the first time the colours of the Republic of Lithuania’s tricolour flag are encoded in heraldic symbols.

The obverse of the coins features the Vytis, stylised coat of arms of the State of Lithuania in the centre; the inscription LIETUVA (LITHUANIA) is placed at the top; the denomination 50 LITŲ (50 litas) and the year of issue 2014 are placed at the bottom. The mintmark of the Mint is impressed on the obverse of the coins.

On the reverse of the coins — a composition of geographical images of the three Baltic States, with an artistic depiction of a road connecting them; the inscription BALTIJOS KELIAS 25 (BALTIC WAY 25) is on the left. The mark of the designer is impressed on the reverse.

The edge of the coin bears the inscription EESTI LATVIJA LIETUVA (ESTONIA, LATVIA, LITHUANIA).

Банк Латвии в 2014 году представил памятную монету в честь 25-летия уникальной мирной демонстрации 1989 года, в которой участвовали около 2 млн человек из Латвии, Эстонии и Литвы, то есть в то время примерно 25 % трёх прибалтийских республик.

«Балтийский путь» (лат. Baltijas ceļš) — мирная акция в прибалтийских ССР, проведенная 23 августа 1989 года. Жители Литвы, Латвии и Эстонии выстроили живую цепь длиной почти в 600 км, таким образом соединив Таллин, Ригу и Вильнюс. Акция была приурочена к 50-летию со дня подписания пакта Молотова-Риббентропа, целью акции было привлечь внимание мирового сообщества к историческим событиям, которые изменили статус стран Прибалтики. Согласно пакту и секретному протоколу, прилагающемуся к нему, СССР и Германия разделяли сферы влияния в Европе: Латвия, Эстония, Финляндия, восточные области Польши и Бессарабии отходили СССР, а Литва и запад Польши — Германии.

В 2009 году организация ЮНЕСКО признала эту акцию феноменом ненасильственного сопротивления и приняла решение включить документальные материалы о ней в международный регистр программы «Память мира».

На аверсе изображена коса, с вплетенными в ее флагами трех прибалтийских стран. Справа указан номинал «5 euro». Внизу выгравирована надпись «BALTIJAS CEĻŠ 1989» и указан год чеканки «2014».

Реверс представляет ствол дерева с обнаженными корнями. Вдоль края выгравированы надписи: «ATMOSTAS BALTIJA» (Пробуждение Балтии) и «LIETUVA LATVIJA EESTI» (Литва Латвия Эстония).  Дизайнер Visvaldis Asaris.

On 19 August 2014, Latvijas Banka is issuing a new 5 euro collector coin dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Baltic Way - the peaceful demonstration, unique on an international scale, when about 2 million people from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania joined their hands to form a human chain.

The idea of freedom is one for which people have always been willing to pay the highest price. In Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania the yearning for freedom found a powerful expression at the end of the 1980s. The Baltic peoples were united by a common goal: to shake off the shackles of the Soviet totalitarian empire, which had meant subjugation of half a century and which had originated in the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact. This mutual non-aggression pact signed on 23 August 1939 by the USSR and Germany was supplemented by a secret protocol, which in fact meant the division of six independent European states into spheres of influence and occupation.

The obverse is crossed by a braid with ribbons in the colours of national flags of the three Baltic Republics woven in it. The inscription "5 euro" is on the right. The lower left part of the obverse bears the semi-circled inscription BALTIJAS CEĻŠ 1989, with the year 2014 on the right.

The reverse displays a vertical image of a tree trunk with exposed roots. There are two semi-circled inscriptions – ATMOSTAS BALTIJA (Awakening Baltics) on the left and LIETUVA LATVIJA EESTI (Lithuania Latvia Estonia) on the right.

The edge features two inscriptions LATVIJAS BANKA and LATVIJAS REPUBLIKA, separated by rhombic dots.
